    Year of the Bible

    1yrbible_2

Because I love the Bible and I want the people I care for to love the Bible, this Saturday I’m launching Year of the Bible. Building upon the release/momentum of a resource that trumps my seminary education–the ESV Study Bible, I’m encouraging my peeps to read through the Bible in a year (November 1st 2008-October 31st 2009). Many are committing to Year of the Bible.

To enrich our individual reading, each week we will have a different person share publicly for 2 minutes about a “discovery” they make (about God, the gospel, the Christian life, etc.) during their Bible reading for that week. We’re also working to create a culture where it’s normal for people talk with one another (when gathering in our weekly community groups and while doing life throughout the week) about how they’re being affected by this journey through the Scriptures.

Are you looking for a Bible reading plan? You might want to join us for Year of the Bible.

Here’s the reading plan: Year of the Bible Reading Plan (it folds into a bookmark)

And here are 5 Directives I came up with to help steer our reading:

Hey Justin! Thanks for posting this. Jeff and I are joining in in this awesome challenge. Its something we’ve wanted to do together for quite some time, and this is a great excuse to actually do it! I’m also heading out to find a copy of the ESV Study Bible.

YES! I’m so glad you posted this. I am ready to take on this challenge! I fell way behind in my last plan and eventually gave up so I am eager to start afresh. Thanks for always encouraging us to be in the Word, Justin!

thanks for the reading plan. that esv study bible does seem to package up everything we spent three years doing in m-div programs…
it hit me driving home today as i listened to npr, hearing yet another man-on-the-street-voter repeating the tag lines and cliches and talking points he’d heard someone else say the night before, that there is no way in heck that God left anything concerning something as important as … oh, i dunno – eternity maybe? … there’s no way he left that hanging as a decision point in the hands of human beings.
we can’t even pick a freakin’ president… and yet we’re supposed to have to make a decision for all eternity?!?!?!?!
God is laughing up his sleeve
as He pours himself another cup of tea,
and He waves goodbye to you and me,
    at least for now…
