The Weaver
I returned from the Philippines to a week of great suffering for several family members, friends, and church members. As I preached Genesis 16 last night, I did so through tears.
This week, while ministering to friends in the hospital who were mourning a great loss, my suffering friend read a poem. After we’d talked a great deal, spoken Scripture together, prayed together, and wept, my friend read a poem that had always meant a lot to him, but now meant so much more. Here’s the poem. I believe it’s called “The Weaver.” I do not know who the author is.
My life is but a weaving
between my Lord and me;
I cannot choose the colors,
He worketh steadily.
Oft times He weaveth sorrow,
And I, in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper,
And I the under side. Not ’til the loom is silent
and the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
and explain the reason why.
The dark threads are as needful
in the Weaver’s skillful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver
in the pattern He has planned.
He knows, He loves, He cares,
nothing this truth can dim.
He gives His very best to those
who leave the choice with Him.
That poem brought tears to my eyes when I read it. Even when hard things happen, it is a comfort to know that God’s plan for us, His tapestry, is still perfect. I look forward to the day when I will see it complete. How beautiful it will be!
I did a quick google search for the author and found this link:

So very true and touching. May God bless your friends during their suffering. They are in our prayers.
Love that poem.
Corrie Ten Boom is the author.

HEllo, I ran across your asking whom “The Weaver” author was.. I was prepared to tell you Lorene Lambright wrote it. Yesterday I was given a Huge embroidered nicely framed art of this poem. An showed Lorene as the author on it. Since many do not embroider no more, I figured she was the author. Then I read your comments, an found it very persuasive that this Franklin wrote it.. Perhaps she just done the Embroidered poem an did not add the author, perhaps not knowing whom wrote it?
Whomever did so done most excellant ! Lovely Poem !
God Bless !
Mom gave me a bookmark with this poem as she sent me off to college in 1971. I’ve still got that bookmark and have become a farmer, shepherd and work in wool spinning, weaving, knitting, etc. It’s gotten me through some dark days, always knowing Christ lights the way.
