3 Rules of Blogging

People often ask me about starting a blog. They ask my advice about whether or not they should start a blog of their own. I always share three rules—three things people should have in place if they want to blog:

Rule #1: Have something to say

Don’t start a blog, write, preach, or talk for any length of time if you don’t have something to say.

Rule #2: Have an audience to say it to

Don’t start a blog without having an audience in mind. All communication should be directed towards a specific audience.

Rule #3: Have your way of saying it

Don’t start a blog if you don’t have a personality. Readers want to read writers who have style, who have their unique way of expressing truth.

  1. These are good basic rules. I agree with all three especially with the last one. If your blog doesn’t have personality people will get bored and not come back! Thanks, Justin, for keeping your blog fresh and exciting! It’s awesome :)
