I help men play big.

I’m a Silicon Valley pastor, author, husband, and dad to three sons. Everything I do is about helping men play big, because this is why men exist. But men miss this, just like I did. I used to play small with my life—I thought shrinking back was somehow better for me and others. But really I was just trying to protect myself from getting hurt, and I was listening to the culture’s lies (and the church’s lies) that told men to tone it down. To hell with that.

God showed me that what he really wants is men who seize their unique life and develop it, enjoy it, and play it to the fullest.

Manhood is a mess. Most men are playing small with their lives, and it’s killing them and the people around them. I want millions of men to get off the sidelines, get into the game, and play big with their lives. Our world needs it.

I’m the founder and Lead Pastor of Garden City, a church that exists to be a counterculture to the pressure, loneliness, and consumerism of Silicon Valley. I’m also the author of several best selling books, including Date Your Wife. Right now I’m writing a new book about masculinity. I’m a 7th-generation Californian and my home is in Silicon Valley, where I live with my beautiful wife of 22 years—Taylor, our three strong sons, and a squad of friends.

I earned my B.A. in Rhetoric & Communication Studies from Westmont College in 2000, and my M.Div. from Fuller Theological Seminary in 2005. I’m an alumni of Fellowship Associates’ authentic manhood and church planting residency (class of 2011), alumni of Crosspoint’s Soul Care Journey (2015-2016), and I work extensively with pastors throughout the Bay Area through Transforming the Bay with Christ.
