Angkor Wat (Cambodia 2006, Part 4)
Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world. This temple is over 1 mile long and 1 mile wide, and it's surrounded by a massive moat. It was built over 1,000 years ago by the native Cambodians. Over the years this site has been used for Hindu worship, worship of the ancient Cambodian kings, and for Buddhist worship. While we were in the north of Cambodia, we spent a day visiting Angkor Wat as well as several other of the 100 some odd temples that dot the Angkor area. As I explored the site I found myself led to worship someone else: the God of the Bible, the one who has presented the greatest wonder of the world--the living temple of his son, Jesus Christ.
I had a blast exploring Angkor Wat. There are no blockades or boundaries here, you have the freedom to explore every inch of this place. I literally could have spent 3-4 days at Angkor Wat, searching each of its hallways, towers, and steep staircases. After a few hours at Angkor Wat, we checked out a few of the neighboring temples. The faces at Bayon Temple were incredible.
But, my favorite temple site of all was Ta Phrom. This place was stunning because of how the massive jungle trees have overtaken this stone temple.
