The Gospel in Leviticus

In my Bible reading I'm going through the book of Leviticus right now. I'm so thankful for the good news that appears within the first few sentences of the book: "He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him" (Leviticus 1:4).Roughly 1,400 years before the substitutionary death of Christ, God was teaching Israel through the book of Leviticus that he was graciously dealing with his people's sin via substitutionary sacrifice. God saves through substitution! God has always saved his people through the grace of substitution. The ancient Levitical burnt offerings were looking forward to the ultimate burnt offering: Jesus. Praise God that Jesus has laid down his life as our burnt offering. Praise God that we can lay our hands on the head of Jesus and confess our sins over him. Praise God for the gospel in Leviticus.
