Ben Patterson, He Has Made Me Glad
Have you forgotten that the Christian life is a life of joy? If so, I think you'd benefit from reading Ben Patterson's, He Has Made Me Glad: Enjoying God's Presence With Reckless Abandon.Ben is the campus pastor at Westmont College (my alma mater) and he attends the church I was a part of during my Santa Barbara years. Ben is a good guy and he's written a good book. The premise of this book boils down to an exploration of the relationship between God's grace and our response of gratitude and joy to that grace. As Ben points out early in the book, these three important words are intimately related, sharing the same root in Greek:Charis: graceEucharistia: gratitudeChara: joyAs I finished this book last Friday night, I enjoyed more eucharistia and chara than the week before because I'd come to a fresh re-aquaintance with the charis of God. Ben is a good guide on these matters. So, if you'd like to explore afresh how God's grace is to fuel your joy, consider picking up this book.
