Marcus Buckingham, The One Thing You Need To Know

Marcus Buckingham's, The One Thing You Need to Know is a good book for the discerning reader who finds him or herself in a leadership role and wants to carefully think through the best of what the secular marketplace is saying about how to lead and manage people.According to Buckingham, the "one thing" you need to know about managing is: to discover what is unique about each person you manage and capitalize on it.The "one thing" you need to know about leading is: of the 5 main fears people have, fear of the future is the most significant fear people have and, therefore, leaders must focus upon leading with clarity. If you do one thing as a leader, be clear. Lead people to a better future that's clearly mapped. The "one thing" you need to know about individual growth is: to discover what you don't like to do and stop doing it.I found these 3 "one things" and Buckingham's fleshing out of these concepts to be helpful food for thought. Obviously, all this must be put through a gospel filter (if I simply stopped doing what I don't like to do I'd need to stop taking up my cross and laying down my life for others), but this book remains a beneficial read for leaders.
