Text & Context Conference: Sunday Service @ Mars Hill

I've arrived in Seattle.Tonight I went to the 8:30pm service at Mars Hill's Ballard Campus--a former hardware store that's been converted to a very slick worship space.Mark Driscoll preached from Acts 17. This was his 8th sermon in a series called Religion Saves, a series which has so far addressed the topics of Birth Control, Humor, Predestination, Grace, Sexual Sin, Faith & Works, and Dating. I like the pastor I saw in him tonight. He demonstrated an infecting gratitude for Jesus and a pastor's heart that bleeds with care for his church and his city. Once it's posted online (follow the link above), this message would be worth listening to.After Driscoll's sermon came 20-25 minutes of moving worship. I found great joy in singing to the Savior tonight. It didn't hurt that I was sitting/standing/singing next to Bob Kauflin, a man whose passion for enthusiastically praising God is immediately contagious. After the service I crammed into very tight backseat with Bob Kauflin and Eric Simmons while my buddy Campbell drove us through the city and back to Bob and Eric's hotel where we dropped them off. It's time for bed now.Tomorrow the conference officially kicks off. I'm looking forward to it.
