My Life is A Lot of Things, But It Isn't Boring
My life is a lot of things, but it isn't boring.I'm just beginning to come out of what has been the wildest few months of my short life, having experienced significant redirection from the hand of God. This strange, sweet providence has forced me to know and trust God in new ways, in deeper ways. There are a handful of topics I've been chewing over as a result. One of them is the gospel (I want to write about this in future posts--the disorientation of this season opened up a locked door in my heart that I didn't know existed, it's allowing me to encounter the power of the gospel in ways I'd not imagined). The other "topic" I've stewed on is God's guidance.Through the years, I've appreciated many books on God's guidance:-Jerry Sittser, The Will of God As a Way of Life-James Petty, Step By Step-J.I. Packer, Guard Us, Guide Us-Kevin DeYoung, Just Do SomethingI heartily recommend all of these books. But I have a new favorite recommendation. Sometimes people don't need a whole book, they just need 17 pages. For me, the best exegetical, theological, and practical treatment of knowing and doing the will of God/God's guidance, is now a concise 17 pages--chapter 6 of J.I. Packer's, God's Plans For You.I'd never heard of this book by Packer. Last week I saw a copy sitting on a shelf in Tullian Tchividjian's office, so I borrowed it (stole it) and brought it home with me. If you can't find someone to borrow the book from to read chapter 6, the whole book is helpful and worth your time (the chapter on Joy is very good).
