American Idol & Truth Telling

American Idol certainly has its troubling issues (ie. idolatry). But one thing that I really appreciate about this show is that the judges are truth tellers. Every week, the 3 judges tell the contestants the truth--that their performances were good, bad, or marginal. Case in point: last night the judges didn't skimp on the truth with Sanjaya, but told him the truth--his performance was terrible.See, this TV truth telling is a rarity today. For this reason, I appreciate American Idol. Now, the judges aren't models for HOW to tell the truth--they often tell the truth without love. But, we Christians can celebrate this truth telling component of American Idol. Then, what we can do (and what we need to do) is go further than American Idol by "speaking the truth in love" (Eph. 4:15)
